  • Formulation and classification of optimization problems
  • Classical optimization problems and main methods of solution
  • Optimal dimensioning of structures and mechanical systems
  • Shape and topology optimization
  • Optimization of composite material structures
  • Multicriteria optimization problems 
  • Nondeteministic optimization methods (simulated annealing, genetic and evolutionary algorithms, particle swarm optimization)
Exercises and Laboratory
  • Analytical solution of simple optimization problems (optimal design and dimensioning of structural components) 
  • Numerical solution of various engineering optimization examples using classical optimization methods (Scilab/Matlab software)
  • Solution of difficult optimization problems using Genetic Algorithm and Particle Swarm Optimization method
  • Optimization procedures in Finite Element Method software (optional)
