A brief outline:
Lecture
  • Determination of the drive structure depending on the operating conditions.
  • Drive cycles principles.
  • Analysis of functions and criteria of propulsion system for the selection of the basic components of power train.
  • Introduction to modelling of electric and hybrid drives.
  • Vehicle motion resistances modelling.
  • Mathematical modelling of power train components:
    • energy storage systems (electrochemical battery, inertial accumulator),
    • mechanical transmissions (Continuous Variable Transmission, Planetary Gear with two degree of freedom, automatic gearbox),
    • electric machines - (direct current machines, asynchronous machines, permanent magnet synchronous machines),
    • internal combustion engines,
    • clutches and brakes;
  • Designing of simulation model for selected power train architecture in Matlab/Simulink environment.
  • The analysis of power flow in selected drive system - estimation and implementation of power train control system strategy.
  • Study of variation of selected energy parameters, depending on operating conditions - computer simulation study:
    • pure electric drive,
    • series hybrid drive and range extender concept,
    • parallel hybrid drive;
  • Geometrical verification of selection of power train components for chosen vehicle.
  • Introduction to advanced hybrid power train architectures.
  • Comparison of power train architectures in terms of energy consumption for different drive cycles.
Project
  • During the project sessions students will use the knowledge gained during the lecture. Aim of the project is to define the structure and the energy parameters in terms of vehicle type, operating conditions and appropriate control strategy system.
