Lecture
  • Electric charge and electric field. Coulomb and Gauss's Law - calculation of electric fields.
  • Capacitance. Electric potential and electric potential energy. Electric dipole. Dielectric polarization. Ferroelectric and  piezoelectric materials.
  • Electric current and resistance. Ohm's law. Microscopic interpretation of resistance. Temperature dependence of resistance. Kirchhoff's rules . Energy and power in electric circuits.
  • Magnetic field. Motion of charged particle in a magnetic field - Lorentz force. Biot- Savart's and Ampere's law.
  • Magnetic materials: dia- , para- and ferro- magnetic materials. Electric motor - principles of operation.
  • Electromagnetic induction; Faraday's and Lenz's law. Eddy currents. Inductance, self-inductance. Current generator and alternator.
  • Electromagentic waves, Maxwell's equations.
  • Relativity. Galileo and Lorentz transformation. The consequences of the Lorentz transformation.
  • Relativistic mass, energy and momentum. Energy and momentum of photon.
